The site

Amager is flat, open and windy. Instead of a tall landmark, the library lies long and low, with a deep timber canopy marking the entrance and sheltering people as they arrive.

The approach

A sawtooth roof of glulam beams brings north light into the reading hall, soft enough to read by all day. Full-height glazing lets passers-by see the rooms inside, so the library feels open before you step through the door.

Inside

Long oak tables, low birch shelving and a stepped timber seating area give the hall several ways to be used: quiet reading, group study or a talk for the neighbourhood.
