A small studio in Copenhagen

Hale & Ward designs timber housing and public buildings. We keep the studio small so the people who draw a building stay with it until it is built.

How we work

Timber structures, timber cladding and timber rooms. We leave the structure visible wherever we can, so people can see how the building is made.

A corner in Nørrebro, flat land on Amager, dunes on Fanø. Each building starts from what is already there: its neighbours, its light and its weather.

Simple volumes, few materials and careful daylight. We would rather a building grow on people over years than impress them for a day.
